A Splendid Weekend at Woodfordia
Bands I watched and what I thought on a scale of 1-10 about their live performance:
Friday 29 July 2011
- British Sea Power: never heard of them before I saw them live, and they were alright. 6//10
- Jinja Safari: again this was a new band for me, but I really liked their live performance -they were really entertaining and lively. One of my favorites all weekend. Lead singer jumped into the crowd, and surfed all the way to the back and ran across the lawn with excited fans running after him. 10/10
- Jebediah: heard of their stuff on Triplej, but didn’t really care too much for them live. 6/10
- The Kills: awful. Female singer, Alison Mosshart was hiding behind her hair the whole set. She looked like Cousin Itt from the Addams Family. It was distracting and became unbearable to sit and watch them. 1/10
- Glasvegas: Not my cup of tea. They were a bit boring to watch and the singer sounds a bit whiny and slurs his words. 2/10
- Eskimo Joe: Not a memorable performance -They were okay, but I couldn’t connect or get into their music. 3/10
- Modest Mouse: YES finally the band we’ve been looking forward to seeing all day -only their performance was not as great as their music is. 6/10
- The Hives: EXCELLENT performance! Great live energy and charisma, made the crowd laugh, sit on the ground, cheer…sensational SENSATIONAL! Would love to see them live again. 10/10
- Kanye West: realized I do not like Kanye as much as I thought I did. Everything got 100 times louder… The music was blaring with bass! My ears were hurting. Very flashy but I left early and I don’t regret it. 5/10
Saturday 30 July 2011
- Foster the People: Loved them. 10/10
- Seeker Lover Keeper: A little like Azure Ray, not too bad. I really liked their hit song -“Even Though I’m a Woman” 6/10
- The Mars Volta: I don’t get why people love them so much. They sang like three songs in one hour. No thank you. 1/10
Sunday 31 July 2011
- Yelle: I was standing front row -made a world of difference! So close I could make eye contact to her 🙂 Her vibrant energy is a universal language that we can all get regardless if her songs are in French. 10/10
- Cloud Control: boring. People in the crowd started to entertain themselves, gaining more attention than the band -so much so even the band made a comment to the crowd that were dancing in and marching around 1/10
- The Middle East: Really mellow and melodramatic. A bit like folk only the band was resisting their genre..which was apparent when one of the members threw their guitar. 2/10
- Noah and the Whale: Yes I liked them very much and so happy they played 5 years time! 10/10
Bands I missed and wish I would have seen:
- Kimbra
- Gotye
- Sparkadia
- Kele
- Gomez
- Architecture in Helsinki
- Grouplove
